"It will be interesting to see what happens when the new bridge brings cycling traffic into the hollow". Here is what happened to me...
I live just a block away from Tanner Park and wanted to check out the new trail. I took my mountain bike down the nearly finished trail for the first time on 08/19/10 and it took about 10 minutes for me to get attacked by an off-leash sheep dog with the owner just standing there watching. As I was fending off the dog with my bike between us, the owner finally called his dog over and then just kept on walking. Stunned and the shin of my leg bleeding, I hopped back on my bike and got out of there. I realized I should have tried to get the dogs tag information, so I took pictures of all 5 vehicles in the parking lot (it was early) and hoping that the owner could be tracked down by his license plate, I filed a police report and had to head to work.
Not a very good first impression, maybe it will be better now that all of the fences are up and with any luck, the leash free dog owners will keep their dogs away from the new trail (wishful thinking, half of them don’t even pick up their dogs dung ).
P.S. I am a dog owner, but I hate the all too common irresponsible dog owners that bring undisciplined dogs into the park to run rampant. I would like to take my 6 year old daughter through there for rides with my 1 year old in the trailer, but not if it remains leash free.
